COLUMBIA BRIDGE, COLUMBIA. The newest of the Connecticut River covered bridges, this 148-foot-long Howe truss bridge was built by Charles Babbitt in 1912 and still stands today. It connects Columbia with Lemington, Vermont. Like Mount Orne Bridge, its upriver side is exposed, while the downriver side is fully covered.

COLEBROOK TOLL BRIDGE, COLEBROOK. This toll bridge ran from Colebrook to Lemington, Vermont, and was built in 1855. It measured 160 feet long and used the Paddleford truss with arch design. This photo was taken c. 1940–1945, before the bridge was removed in 1947. With its worn facade and missing siding, the bridge’s days were numbered.
